The Institute of Theoretical Physics at Ulm University is conducting research that spans from the more mathematical questions in quantum information to implementation-oriented aspects of quantum technologies, including applications at the interface with life sciences or gravitational physics. To address these challenges we pursue research in quantum information, resource theory, and metrology as well as in the theory of open quantum systems and in quantum control methods, and we study non-trivial quantum effects in biological systems. We work with a wide variety of technologies that include NV centers in diamond, trapped ions, optical cavities, and levitated systems to develop theoretical proposals whose realization and application we seek in collaboration with national and international groups, including close collaborations with experimental groups in Ulm.
Research at the Institute that is relevant to the LEMAQUME project is concerned with quantum information and quantum technologies including the control of levitated particles, the control of spin defects in diamond and 2D materials, quantum metrology, and the development of practical quantum technologies.
